Addicted to New Music

Perhaps the best 5 minutes, 30 minutes or sometimes 3 hours of my day is searching the internet for the freshest in music. Quite simply, I am addicted to music. My iPod is my single most prized possession without which it would be difficult to make it through a day. My passion for music begins with finding it, but my ultimate goal is to share it with others. There is no higher form of flattery for me than someone telling me how much they enjoyed a song I gave them. It's almost as if it's my song, except that I don't have an ounce of musical talent in my body, short of belting out Linger by The Cranberries on occasion.

Recently I decided that my formal education in accounting here at Notre Dame may prepare me for real employment when I leave school, but is doing nothing to further my truest career ambition. Following Matt's recent post about using this blog as an opportunity to discuss things that could be interesting for our future, I recently decided that I would love for music to be an essential part of my job in the future. So what did I do? I sent a Facebook message to Scott Vener. Who's dat? Perhaps the man with the sweetest job in the world- that of music consultant on Entourage. Some of his scenes with notable songs have been more memorable than the characters and dialogue. This guy is good.

It's been nearly two weeks now and I haven't heard back from Scott. If any readers can put me in touch with him or any in the music supervision business, I just want to know how they got their starts... nothing creepy or weird. Until then, here's a jam for y'all to feast on.

Better Late Than Never

The plan was to start this blog with the new year. We had come up with a name and created the site before realizing what we could write about... Combined with my inability to create a gmail account that had not already been taken (thanks mom and dad for naming me Matthew -- which ranked 3rd consistently for baby names from 1980-2000) the production of Addicted to Champagne had been delayed.

We realized we didn't have the time or the tools necessary to create popular news blogs such as http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/ or http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ . We didn't have an interest in keeping up with gossip like http://gawker.com/ and http://www.perezhilton.com/ . And we couldn't cash in on the humor of http://failblog.org/ (one of my favorites) or http://icanhascheezburger.com/ (can't stand those stupid cats).

But there is something we CAN write about. Instead of sharing knowledge and direction with our readers (and by readers - at this point means 3 including both authors) ... we can do the opposite. I do not mean spreading lies but instead share experiences, questions, articles, etc... that will help me figure out what I want to do with my life -- at this point could be anything from attempting to live in the wilderness to working in New York City. I have just three semesters until the college life is over and I have to face the real world...

So where does champagne come in? I am not addicted to champagne. And I am certainly not poking fun at the seriousness of alcohol addiction. Technically, I have never had champagne... or any alcohol... but the point remains -- champagne has always been a symbol of success and happiness. New Years, weddings, and World Series Championships. So even though I have little idea of where to go or what to do I hope to be successful at whatever it is I decide upon.

Cheers.

Addicted to New Year

Addicted to Champagne took in the New Year in Lake Placid. Highlights included a smoke machine and a very reasonable 1 AM bedtime. The stroke of midnight featured what else but The Thrill by Wiz Khalifa. While the rest of the house may have been completely indifferent to the selection, we thought it was an obvious choice to ring in the new year with by far the most solid jam of 3rd/4th quarter '09. As '10 starts up, here's what this editor will be addicted to in the upcoming year:

Drake- easily the most anticipated album of the year drops Spring '10.

World Cup South Africa- North Korea is our early bet to surprise the onlooking world with an incendiary offensive attack.

Brian Kelly- Will my school finally have an on-field product to be proud of? We'll see. His former body of work is being served a metaphorical Last Supper by Tim Tebow at time of posting.
